President Ulysses S. Grant's father Jesse Grant was the 1st mayer of Bethel.
Artifacts include the hollowed log serving as plumbing in
Jesse Grant's Tannery and a tannery grinding wheel.
Jesse Grant (1794–1873), father of U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant, was a prominent abolitionist, tanner, and the first mayor of Bethel, Ohio. He held this political office while living in a home that still stands at the southeast corner of Plane and Charity Streets in Bethel, where he and his family resided for ten years.
