A Bethel native, Edmond Burke made his fortune investing in New York real estate.
Burke (1877-1966) left a $500,000 endowment to Bethel for Burke park, the historic Old Cemetery upkeep, and a Bethel-Tate community scholarship fund.
Edmond grew up in Bethel - As an adult he moved with his brother to New York. Edmond and his brother bought and sold real estate, a lot of it on Long Island and that is how he made his fortune, He donated the land now used for a park in Bethel named Burke Park. He also left money to establish scholarships for Bethel-Tate students.
